Clinozoisite meaning

It is scientifically classified as an individual mineral species. It is also almost identical in composition to epidote but lacks significant iron in its structure. The stone forms a series with epidote, and other stones. The actual distinction between these two minerals cannot be made. In fact, some specimens from certain localities are labeled as clinozoisite epidote. Since they are intermediary between these two minerals without an exact determination.

Polymorph zoisite

The stone comes from its monoclinic crystal habit. And it refer to its polymorph Zoisite.

Clinozoisite is a complex calcium aluminium sorosilicate mineral. With formula: Ca2Al3(Si2O7)(SiO4)O(OH). It forms a continuous solid solution series. With epidote by substitution of iron in the aluminium. And it is also called aluminium epidote.

Clinothulite is a manganese bearing variety. With a pinkish hue due to substitution of Mn(III) in the aluminium site.

It was originally discovered in 1896 in East Tyrol, Austria. And its name comes from the resemblance to zoisite. And its monoclinic crystal structure.

It occurs in rocks which have undergone low to medium grade regional metamorphism. And in contact metamorphism of high calcium sedimentary rocks. It also occurs in saussurite alteration of plagioclase.

Typically, in regionally metamorphosed igneous and sedimentary rocks. As well as in contact metamorphosed calcium rich sediments. An alteration product of plagioclase feldspars. The hyperspectral analysis at seven gold deposits within the eastern Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia. It has revealed significant occurrences of previously unrecognised clinozoisite. And spatial relationships between the distribution of this stone, also epidote and gold deposits.

Occurrence

Typically in low to medium grade regionally metamorphosed igneous and also in sedimentary rocks. As well as in contact metamorphosed calcium rich sediments, an alteration product of plagioclase feldspars saussuritization.

Identification

It is distinguishable from epidote in thin section by optic sign. The lower birefringence, and also absence of green color. Furthermore, it presents maximum first order colors under cross polarized light. And In plain polarized light it looks mostly colorless.

Clinozoisite healing and metaphysical properties benefits

The following section is pseudo scientific and based on cultural beliefs.

Clinozoisite works primarily with the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras, enhancing emotional clarity, support, bonding, nurturing and loyalty. The crtystal helps to ease the pain of a broken heart (heartache). It allows clarity and understanding.
